Consistent with our perception of ourselves as a progressive parish, more than 80% of us do not believe that scripture is the literal word of God. We are somewhat diverse in our theological perspective; 30% of us believe that converting persons to Christ is the first step in creating a better society.
More than 80% of respondents to the recent parish survey do not believe that scripture is the literal word of God. What does this tell us?
In Bible study led by Deacon Jeanie, we often opine that the Bible is the “word” of God, not the “words” of God. Our three-legged stool of Episcopal belief is based on scripture, tradition and reason. We seek to translate the word of God into everyday action.
Correspondingly, 30% of survey respondents believe that converting persons to Christ is the first step in creating a better society. We want our next rector to challenge us through sermons that help us understand the Biblical narrative as we seek to be the hands, feet and voice of Christ in the world.
