Who? The Urban Immersion Weekend is for youth in 6th through 12th grades, and their families.
What Will We Do? On Friday evening, we’ll play games, learn some facts about poverty and homelessness in Des Moines. On Saturday, we’ll visit several local service agencies/outreach organizations; share two meals with a diverse group of people; and hear from individuals directly affected by poverty and homelessness or people working with issues, like immigration, the environment, and human trafficking.

On Sunday, we’ll work in stations to make action plans. We’ll attend church and depart to begin our ministry of following in Jesus’ footsteps.

Our Goal: By the end of the weekend youth/families will have begun to explore what we can do to alleviate suffering and to end the injustice that is frequently at the root of many poverty issues.

All of this will be couched in the Christian mandate to “feed the hungry, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, and visit the sick and those in prison” (Mt: 25:31-46).
